vCenter - Multiple nics

Hi,

I have a vCenter 4 U4 server with multiple nics for management, esxi connectivity etc. All ESXi hosts are connected via a dedicated nic. For security reasons I need to add a single host to vCenter managed on a separate vlan/nic. Is this a supported configuration or a configuration anyone is using?

When I add the single host to vCenter it disconnects after approx 60-90 seconds. All firewall ports are open and nothing is being denied, DNS is working fine, along with ICMP between vCenter server and the host. Any ideas?

I am also doing separate NICs on my vCenter server to separate the ESXi management network.

I had issues with host disconnecting 60-90 seconds also and it ended up being an issue with Windows firewall so you may want to double check that.  If you joined vCenter to a domain after you installed the vCenter server you will need readjust you Windows Firewall settings.

Also note that to be able to access VM consoles through the vSphere client you have to provide a route to and from the management network through the vCenter server.

Besides that it has worked well in this configuration.

Thanks herseyc, I'll double check the Windows firewall first thing tomorrow and report back. I have static routes setup to route to the secondary management network and that works fine.

Thanks, I'd already confirmed the IP is correct in the vpxa.cfg, will check the runtime settings in vCenter
