Hi all, has the vCenter Syslog Collector been removed/changed in vCenter version 7? I cant see it listed here:
https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/7.0/com.vmware.vcenter.install.doc/GUID-78933728-7F02-43AF-ABD8-0BDCE10418A6.html
Where as its been called out on 6.7
https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.7/com.vmware.vcenter.install.doc/GUID-78933728-7F02-43AF-ABD8-0BDCE10418A6.html
I am just deploying a vSAN cluster on 7, and I need somewhere to point the ESXi logs and obviously the VSAN datastore isnt supported/recommended to host the logs.
In the past I would forward them to the vCenter.
Hey ,
Yes, it was removed from vCenter Server so I recommend you to use an open source Syslog Collector if you do not have one.
Thanks for the reply, Ive been looking everywhere but I havent been able to see the announcement/notification.
Kind Regards
Think this states it
https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.7/com.vmware.vcenter.upgrade.doc/GUID-6AF21A92-A67E-4DD9-8AC6-46F990118037.html
Starting with vCenter Server 6.0 for Windows, vSphere Syslog Collector is included in the vCenter Server group of services. vSphere Syslog Collector continues to function exactly as for vCenter Server 5.5. However, it is no longer used for vCenter Server Appliance.
Hi @deanvictrix ,
you can use PRTG free with 100 sensors.
on my blog, I posted how to send logs from ESXi 7 to PRTS, if it helps you
