  • 1.  vCenter 5 install fails - Win 2008 R2

    SERVER:

    Altos G330

    Intel Xeon 2.13GhZ Dual core

    4GB RAM

    Windows 2008 R2 Ent 64 bit

    Static IP

    .Net 3.5 SP1 is installed (add remove programs)...but Windows Features shows 3.0 installed

    Windows installer 4.5 installed

    Connected to Domain (but is not a domain controller)

    Logged in as Domain Admin

    Forward and Reverse lookup zones setup and can resolve

    I get the following error when running the installer:

    "vCenter Server is not supported on this platform. Refer to the installation guide for the supported list of platforms. Make sure that windows is not running as Domain Controller."

    Attached are the 2 log files:

    vim-vcs-msi.log

    vminst.log

    Hi ,

    Just confirm: Only ".NET Framework 3.5.1" should be installed.

    If you choose other features also like WCF activation while installing .net framework 3.5.1 then it will force the installation of IIS which will interfere with vCenter web service.

    If you are using separate SQL data base rather that its SQL local instance through SQL express then build 64 bit DSN.

    For installation of vCenter 5  please check server minimum requirement. Check out below link:

    Thanks for the above, but it wasnt the DB.

    I had a corrupted installer. Used a different disk and its worked finally.
