  • 1.  VC Cold Migration and Renaming of VMDKs - Can I stop it?

    Hello,

When I perform a cold migration of a VM from one SAN LUN to another using VirtualCenter, it always renames my VMDKs to servername.vmdk and servername_1.vmdk. I usually change the default names to indicate what drive letter (for Windows) it is. I know I can rename them after migration, but I'm wondering -- is there a way to tell VirtualCenter to leave the names as is?

    Thanks!

That doesn't seem to be an option in VC

We also have the same issue. Any disk migrations either Cold or with Storage VMotion will rename the files back to the original ESX prefered format. This of course will break VCB backups if you have your VMDKs on different LUNS since it will name the files all the same.
