  • 1.  Validate SCSI-3 Persistent Reservation

    Posted Mar 10, 2019 12:41 PM

    I have a windows 2012 R2 Installed on 2 nodes

    MS Failover cluster installed

Created 1 shared storage from datastore directly adding on VM-->Edit Setting-->HDD addition

Created 1 shared Quoroum storage from datastore directly adding on VM-->Edit Setting-->HDD addition

Now when I'm doing "cluster Validation test" it's failed to validate storage and showing this error: Validate SCSI-3 Persistent Reservation

    What can be done ????

Please, give us additional details about your shared disks, like if you are using shared VMDK or RDM... keep in mind that in both cases you will need a dedicated SCSI controller and depending of the type of shared disk you may need to run both VMs on the same ESXi host.

The following guide show the detailed steps to configure the cluster, please double check if you are not missing any steps and/or requirements: https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.5/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-651-setup-mscs.pdf

We are in simplivity environment, have created NFS datastore, and add added 2 volumes(Quorum and shared storage) on a both the MS cluster node.I'm pasting the snapshot of the "edit setting shared HDD"details.

This 2 shared disk is also mounted on another cluster and the failover works(Mean the quorum and shared disk transferring to another node while the failure of one node)

It is failing a cluster validation test , what should be done ????

all the snapshot is with this Query.

    Hi rmustafa

As you can found on documentation I sent and on the KB posted by ThompsG, clustering with NFS disks is not supported.

    Hi rmustafa,

Take a look at this article (https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1030632) as it might be able to help you troubleshoot depending on your configuration.

    Kind regards.

    Hi there,

The quorum must be on FC, FCoE or iSCSI storage. Using NFS is not supported as per the document Richard linked.

Great table in this link with the options: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2147661

Unfortunately the Simplivity doesn’t do iSCSI currently (at least at the end of 2018) and didn‘t support Thick disks so you may have to consider other clustering options, I.e. Application clustering like “Always-On”

    Kind regards.
