    Please can you explain me USB passthrough and VMotion compatibility? http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1022290

    Please what this exactly mean if i vmotion VM with USB device locally connected? Why is VMotion compatibility for USB as option?

    connected USB devices are configured to allow vMotion – that host

    maintains its connections to the USB devices."

    It is basically as you describe. A VM on Host A with a local USB device can be vMotioned to Host B and the VM will still have access to the USB device in Host A (i.e. the USB communication is passed between Host A and B to maintain the VM's connection to the device). If you power down the VM though, and restart it on host B the connection to the USB device is lost.

    Hi,

    and do you know how ESX A pass USB connection to ESX B? Via vmkernel port? It is just connection state or real write/read operations which are passed from ESX A to ESX B?
