  • 1.  Update Manager cannot accept requests

When I enable the Update Manager plug-in, I get an error that says "The VMware Update Manager cannot accept requests now because VirtualCenter server cannot be reached, or the database cannot be reached, or it is in the process of stopping."

Is it possibly the username and password that is accessing the VC database? If so, how do I know what the username is or how do I check to see what it should be?

For Update Manager with Oracle, we had to set up an ODBC connection from the server running VirtualCenter to the server hosting the Oracle database. I haven't worked with MS SQL but I expect that the set up is the same.

    Have you checked ODBC connectivity?

for SQL server on update manager, 1st you need to have the ODBC connection configure and Native client to connect to the Update manager database on SQL server. You must ensure the DB you point from the ODBC is specified to Update manager DB you created. This should fix the issue you have.
