  • 1.  Unsupported ioctl 62 and 63

    Posted Aug 23, 2018 05:50 PM

    Hi,

My vmkwarning.log file has many entries like:

WARNING: CBT: 1102: Unsupported ioctl 62

WARNING: CBT: 1102: Unsupported ioctl 63

There are KBs describing similar "Unsupported ioctl" log entries for numbers other than 62 and 63. What do number 62 & 63 mean? I can't find any document that explains what these numbers are for. Have anyone had experience on these particular numbers?

    Thank you.

Cause: This issue occurs when certain vSCSI filters query virtual disks. Some types of disks (for example, snapshots) do not support ioctl requests and a warning appears in the vmkernel.log file.
Resolution: These warning messages are harmless and can be safely ignored.

Refer: ESXi host reports the error: unsupported ioctl (2058568)   VMware Knowledge Base

    1) What is the version of ESXi?

    2) Share 2-3 lines reported before and after the unsupported ioctl messages from the vmkernel.log.

    Cheers,

    Hi rsk007,

That KB does not include 62 and 63 as being the numbers that are safe to ignore.

    Hi SupreetK,

    It's ESXi 6.5.

Here are a couple of examples. I take the snippets based on the cpu# assuming the operations are related for that CPU during that short timeframe.

These are the same ioctls used to be there in KB: VMware Knowledge Base

KB is updated with version specific ioctl numbers which may be observed in the log and can be safely ignored.

Last time I checked, 62 and 63 were not there. Thanks,
