  • 1.  Unable to ping gateway from Service Console

    Posted Mar 27, 2010 06:14 PM

    Hello,I am getting below error:

cannot complete the configuration of the HA agent on the host. see the taskdetails for additional information. misconfiguration in the host network setup.

Here I installed Vmware Vsphere on vmware workstationand I have made sure that to create the HA cluster by adding the esx hostnames and not by the IP addressas I have added the hostnames in "/etc/hosts" file.

I am not able to ping thedefault gateway
from each esx host and I have checked in the /etc/sysconfig/network
file and found that GATEWAY is "192.168.143.1" in both the hosts.
Please let me know how to resolve this issue.

Please let me know is there anything else I am missing here.

You may be running on some firewalling issue on the VMware Workstation side. Have you tried disabling windows/linux (host OS) firewall? Are you able to ping from the host OS this IP address?

    Hi Marcelo,

Yes I can ping from each host to thier IP address but not the gateway.

    subnet: 255.255.255.0

    Def Gat:192.168.143.1

    HostNmae: esxlab2

    IP: 192.168.143.11

    subnet: 255.255.255.0

    Check the netmask.

And verify that the default gateway is pingable (it is require to activate HA with default configuration).

If your gateway rejects pings you can disable the usage of the gateway as an isolation address. Add the following advanced settings to fix this:

    das.usedefaultisolationaddress --> value = false

das.isolationaddress --> value = IP Address of pingable device, preferably a gateway / switch etc.

    Hi Mate,

First of all thanks for the update as I am able to create the cluster and able to add the esx hosts but now I am facing one more issue but before that I want to explain you about my setup:

I have installed 2 esx vmware vsphere on vmware workstation 7 and created FREENAS for shared storage and now I have a cluster eanbled with HA DRS but I am not able to create the VM on any host(NEsted VMs) I have tried all options like ISO, uploading VMDK but I am getting only black image when I power ON VM. enclosed are the issue details.
