  • 1.  Unable to connect to my ESXI host static ip

    Posted Apr 28, 2018 11:05 PM

Hi all, so I have ESXi installed on a PC and it is connected by ethernet to my router. I assigned the ESXi host a static ip (192.168.1.22), subnet is 255.255.255.0, default gateway is 0.0.0.0.

To set DNS I did ipconfig /all on my laptop (which is connected wirelessly to the same network). I found the dns servers and set them in the esxi host.

However, when I try to connect to 192.168.1.22, I am unable to connect.

    Can anyone help? Thank you.

What network is the PC in from which you're trying to connect to the ESXi host?

My laptop is wirelessly connected to the wifi on the same router that my server is etherned cabled to.

Is your Esxi Host on PC and your laptop connected to same gateway ?

I think you should assign gateway 192.168.1.1 instead of 0.0.0.0 and once your Esxi host and laptop are on same network connected with same gateway then you can connect to your host.

However, when I try to connect to 192.168.1.22, I am unable to connect.

    Please provide more details.

    • Which ESXi version/build are you running?
    • Which vSphere Client do you use (Windows/Web Client)? Please remember that the Windows based Client doesn't work anymore with the latest ESXi versions!
    • Are you able to ping the default gateway from the ESXi Host?
    • Are you able to ping the ESXi host from your laptop? (if not, check whether your router restricts wireless devices from accessing other systems in the network)
