  • 1.  Thin provisioning on Windows Server 2016 NFS Share

    Hi everyone

When trying to clone a VM from local Storage of an ESXi-Host to a NFS share, that is provided by a Windows Server 2016, the thin provisioning of the VMDKs is turned off. With NFS 3 and NFS 4.1 the VMDKs are thick provisioned on the NFS-Share. It doesn't matter if I choose "same format as source" or "Thin Provision".

    I am using:

    vCenter Version 6.5.0 Build 8815520

    Compatibility VM-Version 13

    ESXi 6.5U2 Build 8935087

Is there a possibility, that the thin provisioning is kept on a NFS Share?

    Thanks in advance

    kind regards

    Andreas

If you do not have a VAAI NAS vib installed on the host (for NFS on Windows, there is none), by default only thin provisioned disks are created on the NFS. Does not matter what option you select.
