  • 1.  The Importance of Specifying the Guest OS

    Hello,

I have a question regarding the Guest OS field in the VM. I know that it's important to specify this, because this will give you the recommended defaults for the hardware of the VM, and it will also automatically conncect the suitable VMware Tools disk.

What I'm wondering is if there's any importance to this field after the initial installation and configuration of the VM, for example better memory managment etc.

    Thanks

In my mind, that setting is only to present the corect hardware for the OS Specific install.

The memory sharing/compression and resource allocation is still handled by the Hyper-visor

And some OS selections gives you more functionality like Win 2008 selection enables you to be able to hot add memory, NICs, CPU
