    Hi everyone,

I want to set up a cheap home esxi server to replace my old 2003Server with vmserver on it. And so I do not want to buy expensive mainboards above 100$.

Is it correct, that the sata controllers on the following chipset should be supportet by ESXi 4 ?

    - any amd 780/785G chipset

    - sb700/sb710

I already have some supportet Intel NICs.

    Thanks so far !

Finding a supported board is mostly about the embedded components. It isn't unusual for component changes to happen during a production run of desktop boards. I would consult http://vm-help.com to see if there are usable examples.

I also searched there. But a suitable a AM3 Board under 200$ is not listed.

Again it really isn't necessarily about the motherboard itself. It will be mostly about the embedded components like disk controllers and NICs. If you don't require RAID then you may find something that works by searching this forum for AM3. If you need RAID you will probably need to spend more for the disk controller than for the motherboard.
