We currently have 5 hosts in a cluster with DRS, HA and vMotion and are preparing to create 2 new VM's for a new email archiving application EMC SourceOne. Based on our exchange enviroment the vendor has recommended that we create hard drives of 2TB and 1.2TB among others that will be smaller in size, and according to them vMotion will work as long as the EMC SourceOne servers are using either virtual disks or VMFS for direct access to disks. We are using Dell EqualLogic SAN storage, and for right now as we are in the initial phases of our vSphere deployment we have two volumes/LUNS for datastores 1 of 1TB and the other of 1.5 TB, I had read that VMFS datastores cannot exceed 2TB in size, if this is the case then how would we best handle this situation. I have created the servers with the intial virtual disks of 30gb for the OS, how can I or should I create a virtual disk of 2Tb or should I create a seperate volume/LUN to be accessed through the iSCSI initiator from the windows VM directly. If I do this will I still be able to vMotion my VM's

A VMFS volume can support up to 32 extents of up to 2TB each, so 64TB total. Provision the space you need in LUNs of 2TB or less, then create a datastore consisting of all the LUNs.

Thansk for the advice, I am trying to do as you suggested but heres my problem

I have 2 different datastores, I just created a new volume/LUN on the

SAN that I want to add as an extent to the datastores. After creating the volume/LUN i can see it in my vCenter

client under Storage Adapters--> iSCSI Software Adatpter

-->Devices. When I go to the Storage Datastore view I click the

datastore I want to add the extent to but I cannot see the new LUN from

any datastore, when I have done rescans and refreshes the host see the

LUN but cannot see it if I want to add it to the an existing

datastore. Am I missing something? the option to add extent is not

avaialable, and when I click increase it doesnt not see the LUN under Properties>Increase>Extent device . How

    can i add this LUN.
