    Hi there,

    Greeting! I'm a new guy in this forum.

    Connection:

    HP Blade BL460c G7 -> Virtual Connect FlexFabric x 2 -> Cisco 5K switch x 2

    Background:

    1. Using 10GB ethernet ports in FlexFabirc VConnect;

    2. Upstream switch is two Cisco 5K (user said that no any firewall or without port access control)

    3. VConnect does not use Shared Uplink Set, just enable VLAN Tunneling and Smart Link.

    4. vCenter installed in a VM.

    5. Upstream switch enable trunking but port-channel.

    Symptom:

    1. When I use laptop access ESXi with management IP with vSphere 5.0, it popup error message after certification warning (pls refer attachment).

    2. When I ping ESXi management IP with laptop, it passed.

    3. When I access ESXi by IPaddress with IE, web-page can be loaded.

    4. When I remote-desktop to one of VM installed Windows, it failed.

    What I've tested:

    1. All right, I by-pass external switch (Cisco 5K), use laptop access ESXi with vSphere direct to VConnet, it works.

    2. By-pass external switch, I can remote-desktop vCenter's Windows, it works too.

    3. Re-install ESXi, not work.

    4. Throw out Cisco 5K switchs and replace them with Cisco 2950, I got same issue as 5k does.

    I googled a lot, but seems nothing can resolve my issue.

    What I plan to do for next:

    A. Open LACP and FastPort in Cisco switch;

    B. Disable VTP and DTP in Cisco switch. (As HP document, VConnet does not support both)

    C. Try to re-config VConnet to Shared Uplink Set mode.

    This project is urgent. I would appreciate for your kindly help or any suggestions.

    Thank you. Alvin.

    Hi Alvin, welcome to the forum!

    Please check your VirtualConnect setup by studying HP's Virtual Connect Ethernet Cookbook.

    Make sure that you use the lastest firmware and drivers for the OneConnect CNAs. See http://v-front.blogspot.com/2011/10/update-esxi-50-on-hp-g7-blades-now-go.html.

    Good luck,

    Andreas

    When using LACP, ensure that your LAG IDs match on the VC, and your channel-group is set to "mode active" on the Cisco 5K.

    Hi there, update!

    *What I've tried yesterday*

    1. Re-config VConnect according to HP VConnect Ethernet cookbook. Setup Shared Uplink Set and Map VLAN tags. Set LACP and change to mode active in Cisco switch.

    Result: Same symptom. Can ping ESXi management IP and VM IP; Can access ESXi homepage by its IP with IE; Failed to connect ESXi with vSphere, got same error like before; Failed to Remote-desktop to VM.

    2. One more finding! HP iLO3 remote-console time out while Cisco switch in topology.Since iLO3 port is connecting to upstream switch, I think we can isolate VConnect problem then.

    *What's my trouble shooting plan*

    A. Upgrade VConnect firmware from 3.1x to 3.3x.

    B. Use a Cisco 2950 instead of Cisco 5K. And reset 2950 to default settings before testing in order to prevent any exist uncorrect settings.

    C. Use a HP GbE2c module instead of VConnect to isolate VConnect setting issue.

    Dear folks, pls feel free to share your idea like a brainstorming.

    Thanks a lot in advanced. :smileyhappy:.. Alvin.

    Finally,problem resolved. Root-cause is customer firewall disable some ports result in vSphere / remote-desktop / iLO3 remote-console session time out. Thank you.
