  • 1.  Stateless cache on Dell SD card

I'm attempting to switch some of our hosts to auto-deploy in out lab. The lab servers are some dell blades with redundant 16GB SD cards.

I'm trying to configure the SD cards for auto-deploy stateless caching, but the ESX hosts dont see the cards...

I'm guessing it's cause I have to format the device a specific way for ESXi to see it???

How can I list the devices, find my (16GB) SD card and format it for stateless caching?

I think once it is formatted it will show up and i can figure out the device name for the profile.

I'm guessing once i find the device I will need to format it with vfat???

May be you need to off the usbarbitrator and then scan for the card. Once this is done then you need to format the card fat32nd then cache the image.

    I did try that -

    /etc/init.d/usbarbitrator stop

I think the issue aside from the USB arbitrator is the SD is not formatted.

The system doesn't see the SD device under "USB storage controller"

I need to look for unused/unformatted devices at the CLI and get it setup is my guess.

Whats the cli command to find unmounted/unformatted devices and format them?

I think on dell drac you can see the SD card from there you can create the 4gb and than format and mount the card. If you already did that than it should be visible because last time I did the same for stateless caching.
