    Hi!

I was wondering if the HQ Agent starts automatically when you restart a machine.
If yes, how it can be done?

    Cheers.

    It is/can-be automated..

On Windows it gets set up as a service using the tanuki service wrapper. It starts automatically.

Linux or any *ix can always set something up as a service, but you need to know a sysadmin.

    (general)

    http://opensolaris.org/os/community/smf/ (solaris)

This is easy for us, but it is nothing you want to be learning to do yourself unless you LIKE being a sys-admin.

I don't know if they have a script to set this up but I wouldn't be surprised if they have something I haven't seen. Tanuki can be used in the *ix environment too.

    Hi, dodRocket.

It depends on the operating system the agent runs on. In case of Windows
you just have to follow the official install instructions at

    http://support.hyperic.com/display/DOC/Installing+an+Agent-Only+Package

For Linux I posted a tutorial in the forums, see

    http://communities.vmware.com/message/1935898#1935898

    HTH.

    Cheers, Bjoern

    Hi,

the rpm Agent packages comes with a init script and there is also a guide for Debian based systems available:
