Standard vSwitch and IPv6 local routing

Hi,

I am trying to setup a native IPv6 testbed. trying to use ESXi as the local router but that fails. I'm trying to avoid updating the switch stack or using it as a  traverse point because of maintenance issues. In other words going back out to the physical switch and routers is not in scope at this point in time.

- 2 Linux VMs can ping the ESXi host but cannot ping each other or communicate with each other

- the ESXi host can ping the Linux VMs

- firewalld is disabled on both Linux VMs

- both are on the same stand vSwitch

Any ideas what I am missing to make this possible?

My next steps are to make a vRouter using a Linux VM on the same vSwitch.

Solution: It turned out to be much easier; I was making it too complicated.

1) create a new vSwitch with no ESXi vmNIC attached.

2) attached the NICs of VMs to the vSwitch above

3) enable IPv6 link local on the Linux VMs

All applications are good and no routing is required.
