Hi
we're in the process of updating our SQL estate. When I look at the supported SQL version for Vcenter, the compatibility matrix says 6.7 U3 is only supported up to SQL 2016
https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/sim/interop_matrix.php#db&2=
Is this right? Do we have to use a 5 year old version of SQL to be in a supported state? I had hoped to deploy SQL 2017 or 2019
Cheers
Alex
Hello
I would recommend following the compatibility matrix.
Do you plan on upgrading to 7.x anytime soon? According to VMware 7.x does not support external databases.
vCenter Server 7.0 uses PostgreSQL for the embedded database. vCenter Server 7.0 does not support external databases.

Thanks
Hey ,
Yes this is true indeed as mentioned the support in the next versions is deprecated. Adding to his comment I would recommend you to migrate to vCenter Server Appliance if you did not do it yet, assuming your vCenter Server is on Windows.
Thanks for the replies. I did wonder why I couldn't see any supported SQL versions for Vcenter 7. I'll have to ask our Vmmare admins what the plan is, I'm the SQL DBA.
I would go to the "integrated" database asap. Makes life for everyone easier short term, and long term!
