snapshot removal timeout in VC during VM replication.

Hi,

We're using vReplicator from Vizioncore to replicate some VMs as part of our disaster recovery plan. One of the VM's is a file server with 4 disks: 68GB, 135GB 500GB and 4GB. Everything seems to go fine (the whole process takes about 10 or 11 hours) until the end when the snapshot removal begins. The target host snapshot timesout in Virtual Center at 15 minutes. Nothing we have tried has solved this issue. We changed the timeout value in vpxd.cfg. We tested it by setting it to 5 seconds and running a replication on a VM that works fine and it failed. We changed the value to 1800 seconds and the file server VM still times out at the snapshot removal step after 15 minutes. Any ideas on the solution?

Hi,

The length of time required to commit the changed data from the snapshot may very well take longer than 15 Min. I have seen over and hour in some cases. It will continue even when the time out error is issued.

Look for the presence/absence of the delta files to know when it completes.

Did you ever get a solution for this? I've got the same issue with VCB and annoyingly it means the VCB process thinks it's failed and deletes the backups it's created.

I did get an answer. The timeout in Virtual Center is set at 15 minutes. You can make it shorter, but not any longer. In vReplicator you can run the backup without using VC. It connects to the source host through VC. It connects to the target host directly. All of timeout errors were for one VM on the target host, so this solution was perfect for me. I'm not sure if the samething will work for VCB.

Have you implemented a fix? I am also running into this with VCB backups (with vRanger Pro). Not sure how wasy it would be to implement vRanger to go to the ESX host directly as opposed to VC.
