  • 1.  Resetting root password in host & VSA

    Posted Nov 17, 2016 10:34 PM

    Hello,

We have 5 hosts (5.5) with one virtual server appliance.

    Summary below:

    - all 5 hosts have same root password

    - virtual server appliance has the same password as the hosts

From the KB I am reading and gathering what I read.  Please confirm the following steps.

    - Log into each host via ssh and reset each individual host.

    su root

    passwd "my new password"

    - Then log into VSA and reset the the "administrator" account  (basically the VSA administrator account is the same as the vCenter)

    Thanks for reading

    TT

    a. Resetting ESXi root password:

Changing an ESXi/ESX host root password (1004659) | VMware KB

    b.According to your  issue

-> Then log into VSA and reset the the "administrator" account  (basically the VSA administrator account is the same as the vCenter)

i assume ur changing changing password of administrator@vsphere.local then follow the following steps.

    1

Log in to the vSphere Web Client using your vCenter Single Sign-On credentials.

    2

In the upper navigation pane, to the left of the Help menu, click your user name to pull down the menu.

As an alternative, you can select Administration > Single Sign-On > Users and Groups and select Edit User from the right-button menu.

    3

Select Change Password and type your current password.

    4

Type a new password and confirm it.

The password must conform to the password policy.

    5

    Click OK.

Just to confirm.  The "administrator" from the appliance is basically the "root" account used to log into vCenter?  As least in the test environment, that is what I am seeing.
