    Hi people!

I need to reset my root password with Host Profile. I understood how to do it, but my question is if I have to put the host in maintenance mode. In some posts they say that it is necessary to put it in maintenance mode and in others they say nothing.

My ESXI is version VMware ESXi, 6.5.0, 8294253.

Thanks a lot for you help!

I'm pretty sure the host profile will make you put it in maintence mode, I can't remember as I generally put hosts in maintence mode when doing things like host profiles anyway.

Vmware official document says "you might need to place the host in MM" for some settings instead of must, still you can try it on one host, if maintenance mode is required while remediating the host , it will stop until the host enters maintenance mode .

    https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.5/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-65-host-profiles-guide.pdf  Check "  remediate a host " section

You can test this in vmware hands on lab host if you can't do it on prod environment.

    HI,

In my blog I created a guide to reset the root password using Host Profiles (in Italian).

I think you may find it useful.
