  • 1.  Reserved Capacity - Cluster Memory

Does anyone know what this metric means exactly? On the performance chart in vCenter, on the Cluster | Reserved Capacity, what does this actually mean. I thought it was just the total Reserved Capacity for the cluster ie a total of all VM's with their Memory Reservations. However if I look at the Resource Allocation tab for the cluster I can view the real Memory Reserved Capacity which is vastly different to what's reported in the Cluster | Reserved Capacity metric. Clearly these are for different metrics. So what does the performance metric Cluster | Reserved Capacity mean?

This means that total of reserved resources for all virtual machine (For example, VM reserved memory) + Percent of cluster resources which reserved for HA + Total of VMs memory overhead

So I assume then, if it is indeed partly a calculation of VM reservation, then this is why I am getting very different figures when looking at the cluster resource allocation figures. What I mean is that we have vCloud Director managing our platform and vCenter servers, we use the allocation model, which means reservation are set at the resource pool level and not at the individual VM level, hence why the Cluster Memory Reserved Capacity is way off as it doesn't include resource pool reservations.
