  • 1.  Removing and readding a datastore....

    Hi,

    While being in ESXi 6.7 config for my Host-A and select Storage / Datastores I see two datastores, Store-A and Store-B. Both of these display their correct capacity, around 6 Tb and their folders and files.

    Formerly I saw exactly the same datastores with equal properties on my Host-B. However now it displays Store-A as zero bytes capacity while Store-B displays its proper 6 Tb capacity. While clicking Datastore Browser on Store-A it displays "Error" but for Store-B it displays the expected folders and files.

    Can I rightclick Host-B's Store-A datastore and select Delete? Does that just remove the link from the host to the physical storage without erasing any of its files and folders? I just want to remove the current, buggy Store-A datastore and re-add it to hopefully display its real folders and files.

    How do I correctly and safely delete it and readding it to this host..?

    The Delete option is not what you want to do in this case, as this is supposed to erase the datsatore, which most likely wouldn't work anyway. Instead of Delete, try the Unmount option.

    What you may also try - unless already done - is to Rescan the storage adapter, and Refresh the storage.

    Btw. what storage system, and which protocol (NFS, iSCSI, FC) is in use?

    It's iSCSI to Dell MD3620i

    There is no UnMount menu item, on the contrary there is a Mount item.  Which I clicked, but nothing happened....

    Please see whether e.g. the vmkernel.log file contains any related entries.

    Are those log lines about the 'missing' or corrupted datastore link? 

    Remember the other host displays the same datastore's real folders and files so the problem must be the link or related to that....
