  • 1.  Remove vmdk from a guest??

    Posted Nov 18, 2010 03:29 PM

I've tried to find the appropriate vmkfstools command.

Or can I edit the *.vmx file to not have any references to the *.vmdk that I want to remove?? (remove all lines about its scsi controller, the vmdk, etc.)??

I'd rather remove the extra vmdk than restore, for various reasons, the extra vmdk is corrupt or something and can readily be discarded and I can start over again...

The guest OS is Win2k8 R2...it is presently stopped...will not start right because it keeps trying to fix the "hard drive" of the extra vmdk file.

    Thank you, Tom

    Hello.

Use nano to edit the .vmx file and put a # in front of the lines with the disk and controller you want removed - this will comment them out.

    Good Luck!

Can't use VC because this IS the VC. :smileyhappy:

Thank you on the nano, I wasn't 100% certain of that.

I will do that after stopping the VM.

    Thank you, Tom

P.S. Commenting it out worked PERFECTLY!! :smileyhappy: :smileyhappy:

Ha...Then a simple vi of the vmx file (or nano, two thumbs down!) and commenting them out with a # should be fine.

Just go into Edit Settings and select the drive, click Remove.
