  • 1.  Remote Console blank but VM running fine

I've got a VM that is running fine. I can ping it, RDP to it, etc.

But from VIrtual Center, when I try to open the Remote Console of this VM, I just get a blank black screen. Sending a Crtl-Alt-Del doesn't help. VMware Tools are shown as not installed in Virtual Center, but they are running on the VM (I restarted the VM Tools service on the VM to see if that would help, but no dice).

    Anyone seen this before?

Yes I have seen this before.

Are you able to connect directly to the esx server and open the console? bypassing vc.

Check the dns settings on your workstation and on the esx server and make sure they are correct.

I don't know if you are testing 3.5 upgrades, but I saw this referenced in the release notes.

VMotion from ESX Server 3.5 Hosts to ESX Server 3.0.x Hosts Causes the Console Sessions of the Migrated Virtual Machines to Become Blank
