  • 1.  Registering VMs from datastore through vSphere Client

    I'm trying to migrate some VMWare Server 2 VMs to ESXi but can't see how to import VMs from the ESXi Datastore to the Inventory through the vSphere Client. Am I missing something obvious here or can this only be done through the command line?

    A simple right click on the vmx file should serve the purpose. Have a look at the following kb:

    As I recall is the VM was created with VMware Server 2 you will need to import into the ESXi environment either by converting the VM into an OVF format or by using VMware Converter to import the VM -
