  • 1.  Recover deleted VMDK files

    Posted Jul 17, 2020 11:30 PM

    Hello!

I had some problems on my server and accidentally deleted some VMDK files (Two, actualy, from 00001 and 00002 snapshots), like that thread below.

Can you recover an accidentally deleted VMDK file?

Can someone help me to recreate that vmdk files?

    Thanks in advance.

Ps: That machine was stored in two datastores, i placed that files below.

At a first look i think that youre "only" missing a few descriptor files of the snapshots. All flat and delta files are there so no data loss right now!

The descriptor is a simple ascii text file an can be recreated from scratch. You should ask continuum

Attached you will find the recreated/missing descriptor files.

Important: Before uploading the .vmdk files to the datastores, rename the 16MB file "HanaB1_2-000002.vmdk" back to "HanaB1_2-000002-delta.vmdk". From the files that you've attached, it looks like the delta file has been renamed!?

Once the files are in place, create another snapshot, so that you can revert to the current state in case it's necessary.

After confirming that everything looks as expected, consider to run "Delete All" from the Snapshot Manager to get rid of all the snapshots (assuming you don't need them).
