    Hi!

We're currently facing a purple screen of death on one of our DELL R610 boxes with ESX 4.0 (latest patchlevel). The R610 is part of a 4-cluster-node architecture. As a (not 100% identically) PSOD screen pops up now for the second time on exactly this machine during the nighttime we're on the one side thinking of a hardware failure, but on the other hand it could also be a very specific VMware problem.

Does anyone have an idea what might cause the PSOD? Or can anyone tell me what kind of module is causing this error?

The storage is connected via FC with QLogic HBAs. Is it also possible, that the storage itself might be causing the problems due to a hdd failure or problem on that side? (it is an EMC AX4-5f)

    Regards,

    Thorsten

But on other side you have 3 more exactly the same servers without such problem. I'm sure it's hardware failure.

Test server for hardware health, especially memory.

    That's unlikely.

I would open a case with VMware and send them the crash dumps. They will be able to help you pin-point what piece of hardware is causing the crash since I agree that it is most likely hardware related.
