  • 1.  PSOD - Boot image is corrupted

    Hi,

    Hope someone can help.

    Had to shutdown my esxi server to move into a cabinet the other day.

    Now I'm getting the PSOD after a couple false starts.

    "Could not load multiboot modules: Boot image is corrupted"

    I've tried ALT-R (no alternate hypervisor to rollback to) and have done an upgrade (using same version 6.0.0 Build 9313334 but get teh same PSOD after a successful upgrade.

    I'm wondering if it's possible to get some data from the usb to import into a fresh build to save me from reconfiguring?

    any help/suggestions appreciated.

    I don't know how complex your configuration is, but I'd go with a new USB device, and a new installation in such a case.

    Thanks for your reply Andre,

    Ive gone with that... so there is nothing on the original install USB that can be used to import to the new install to save re-configuring?

    There may of course be ways to manually "migrate" a configuration, but doing this manually is not supported, and may also require several manual steps. Since the ESXi host is the base for all VMs, and should be reliable, I would personally rebuild it from scratch.

    There is some information available for how to backup & restore an ESXi configuration, but this requires a working host. See e.g. https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2042141
