PROBLEM when installing a new vm

  • 1.  PROBLEM when installing a new vm

    Hi,

Recently I had a problem with a vm in which i put to allocate 6TB of Hard Drive when I only have 1TB, so i waited till my macbook collapsed and then i fored shut down and restarted my mac again.

Then i deleted the VM and tried to reinstall win11 with the setup that vmware fusion has but i wasn't able to complete the process because of two errors:

firstone is that Fusion wasn't able to get the ESD file which i think I solved because now I have the secondone which is the following

One time the esd file is downloaded and the program has started to create the ISO file, it suddenly quits and when i locate the ISO file of Windows and try to install manualy, it says that is for Windows server 2025.

What can I do to solve this problem ??
    Thank you in advance

    Guillem

Microsoft just started releasing Windows 11 24H2. Perhaps something on their side could be causing the mix-up as they stage this new Windows 11 version for release.

I just kicked off a "Get Windows from Microsoft" task in Fusion 13.6 for the Professional edition, US English. It's downloading Windows build 26100.1742 which is Windows 11 24H2.

What Windows edition and language are you trying to download? I can give that one a try to see if I'm seeing the same thing as you.

An update. I'm finding some issues with building this new release ISO. I'm running some tests to see if I can find out where the problem might be (either on Microsoft's side or VMware's side). I'll post back when I get more info.

I'm making some progress on this. It seems that Fusion thinks that the Windows 11 24H2 ISO is not Windows 11, rather, Windows Server. I'm actively researching some workarounds that look promising. Hold tight for another couple of hours and I think I can find a way out of this mess.

Note that VMware hasn't stated that Windows 11 24H2 is officially supported for Fusion. We probably can get it to work, though.

See my post https://community.broadcom.com/vmware-cloud-foundation/discussion/windows-11-arm-24h2-installation-problems-workaround for a workaround that got me going. Hopefully it will help you.

Just to update you folks, this is known to us. We are already working on this and this will be fixed in future release.

Thanks for all the updates here and on this post

@Gaurav Joshi - that is good news.

I hope we don't have to wait 3 months or longer (which seems to be par for the course with non-security bugs in Fusion) in order to get this fixed. This is a serious problem especially for those who want to build new Windows 11 VMs - there's not an easy way to get the old 23H2 version that works. Yes, there's a work-around, but we're back to Fusion being "hard to use" again for Windows 11 like it was before Fusion 13.5.

This issue should be solved now in our latest 13.6.1 update.  Please check.

    Thanks!

@Gaurav Joshi thanks for the update. I'm downloading now to verify the solution. I'll post my results, but it's encouraging that at least one other user has indicated that 13.6.1 does indeed fix the issue.

Thanks to the VMware team for responding to this with a product update so quickly.

The update to 13.6.1 fixes the issues. Windows 11 ARM 24H2 ISOs are now recognized as Windows 11 64-bit Arm, and the bootable Windows Setup no longer displays a blank screen with an ISO created using the "Get Windows from Microsoft" found in this release.

Note that if you have a Windows 11 ARM 24H2 ISO that you were able to download with Fusion's "Get Windows from Microsoft" in Fusion versions 13.6.0 or earlier, you should go back and re-run "Get Windows from Microsoft" to create a new ISO after updating to Fusion 13.6.1. The 24H2 ISO created with Fusion 13.6.0 and earlier may have the VMware video driver that causes the bootable Windows Setup to go blank after boot.
