Yes, vCert will help you resolve certificate expirations. Just follow the instructions in the KB.

I did further investigating and it appears the certificates that are used by the vSphere machines are the cause. The certificates expired on December 26th. Both certificates were self-signed, so it appears I will need to renew them. Would the vCert utility be the best method?

See what errors you're getting in the backup log file here: var/log/vmware/applmgmt/backup.log
Ive used FTP, SFTP, and SMB (CIFS) without issue. Check permissions on the target and test with another utility (FileZilla, WinFTP, etc).
