    Hi,

I would like to know whether I can configure a Port-Mirroring in vCloud. In fact, I would like to have a port-mirroring of a virtual machine to another virtual machine even when they are hosted in different ESXi. In addition, I would like to know what's going on when virtual machine are automatically migrated.

Is this configuration allowed into vCloud?

    Thanks, best regards.

Yes, this is possible but there is no official Documentation. It all depends on the way vDS is configured. For more information, see https://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2012/06/how-to-use-port-mirroring-feature-of-vds-for-monitoring-virtual-machine-traffic.html

    Thanks parmarr,

    I've also found this:

It seems it's possible with RSPAN.

    Thanks, best regards.

Distributed Port Mirroring:  Mirror packets from a number of distributed ports to other distributed ports on the same host. If the source and the destination are on different hosts, this session type does  not function. Page 152 in the below mentioned link :smileyhappy:

Port mirroring between distributed ports can only be local. If the source and destination are on different hosts due to vMotion, mirroring between them will not work. However, if the source and destination move to the same host, port mirroring works.
