I'm getting ready to deploy a 2 node ESXi cluster(essentials plus) with plans to add a third node within 6 months.  I'm going to be hosting the VMs on an iScsi SAN.  In our server room we have a couple switches that I can use, a cisco catalyst 4507r and a smaller 2960G.  My first throught was to put everything on the 4507.  The Dell servers have six NIC ports for which I was planning on allocating:

    1 port for Management

2 ports for iScsi traffic and vmotion

2 ports for VM guest traffic

1 port for drac express(dell's ilo)

As I said, my first through was to put everyone on the 4507 and just stagger between modules in the event one of them dump out.

But now I'm wondering if I should or could add the 2960G into the mix.  Right now I have the NICS in our iScsi(HP P4300) devices split between the two switches.  Does it make any sense and is it possible to use the 2960G to add another layer of redundancy?

    Thanks!

The 4507 should be under warranty with dual power supplies, if so forget about the 2960G

It does have redundant power supplies and has smartnet.

But, why just use the 4507 over both?  Ease of configuration, performance, etc?
