Since upgrading my infratructure to vSphere (ESX 4, vCenter Server 4) my patch repository still contains patches for ESX 3.x. How can I clean-up the repsitory to remove all 3.x patches?

Set the filter to only show ESX 4.0 updates...

Create a new baseline, call it whatever, like esx4 patch

Then hit next, you should see a product listing, ONLY select ESX 4.0 patches.

I don't think you can completely eliminate ESX 3.X patches from downloading.. besides, they really aren't that big.

Yes, I did create a new baseline and I only see the 4.x patches I want to see. Also, I want to delete the 3.x patche files from my vCenter Server too. Can i just remove the following folders or just the files within the folders?

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware Update Manager\Data\hostupdate\embeddedEsx\embeddedEsx-3.5.0

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware Update Manager\Data\hostupdate\esx\esx-3.0.3

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware Update Manager\Data\hostupdate\esx\esx-3.5.0

    Thanks.

I suppose you COULD delete the folder, but why? How much space are you really saving?

Right click that embeddedEsx-3.5.0 folder and click properties, how big is it? 3GB 5GB? What is the purpose for deleting the folder?

If it aint broke, don't fix it!

true, but it is still nice to be able to clean up. Your view, whilst sensible, isn't helping the request.

I too would like to know how to clean up. I'd also like to know how to get it to download vib's when it says it has and they haven't downloaded. It would be nice if VMware just wrote good software that contained obvious things like redownload, or cleanup repository. They always (and it goes for many SW vendors) just seem to do the minimum. Very frustrating.

found this post. it is on moving the storage to a new location. seems to support starting with an empty directory. could be a away of getting a cleaned up repository.
