Number of Disk Stripes per object.

Anyone have any recommendations for what to set this at?  I was thinking that since each of my hosts have 2 disk groups (1+7 each) to set it to 7..So that all the writes would stripe over all the disks in a group.

But then I found out there is no way of knowing which disk, or even which host, each of the 7 stripes will land on.

Seems that the default of 1 is a bit low, but maybe 7 is too high..

What are people actually using in production?

    Thanks,

    Paul

Most customers I have spoken with do not tweak the stripe size of Virtual SAN. They leave it set to the default. I have spoken to about 2 or 3 who set the stripe size to anywhere between 4-8, depending on their cluster size and disk configurations.

As you said, you cannot control where data lands so striping may or may not result in a better performance when a read needs to come from disk.

Do you have a requirement to stripe?
