Is there a requirement for NSX Manager and vCenter to sync to an NTP Server? In other words, if time is not synchronized between VC and NSXM, will that cause an issue? I looked through the NSX documentation, but couldn't find a clear answer.

    Thanks!!

Time sync is important across various pieces of an NSX deployment.  The installation guide highlights some points on the matter.

    https://pubs.vmware.com/NSX-62/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/nsx_62_install.pdf

Page 41 - NTP Server must be specified so that SSO server time and NSX Manager time is in sync.

Page 53 - Verify that the network time on vCenter and ESXi hosts is synchronized.

Page 116 - Ensure the NSX Manager and the prepared hosts that will run Guest Introspection services are linked to the same NTP Server and that time is synchronized.  Failure to do so may cause VMs to be unprotected...

Also, you will have difficulty registering NSX Manager with vCenter if time is not synchronized between SSO and NSX Manager.

When there are time drift between vCenter, ESXi Hosts, and NSX Manager, you may get issues like

    - failed to configure lookup service from NSX Manager to vCenter

    - cannot prepare ESXi hosts for NSX

    See below KBs

VMware KB: Understanding and troubleshooting VMware NSX Manager

    https://kb.vmware.com/kb/2125433

    • If configuring the Lookup service or vCenter Server fails, verify that the NSX Manager and Lookup service appliances are in time sync. Ensure to use the same NTP server configurations on both NSX Manager and Lookup service. Also ensure that DNS is properly configured. For more information, see Configuring the SSO Lookup Service fails (2102041).
    • Starting with NSX for vSphere 6.2.3, the /etc/ntp.drift file in NSX Manager is now included with the NSX Tech Support Bundle. Note: The ntp drift file from other NSX Components (such as ESXi and NSX Controllers) are not included as they are not collected as part of the NSX Tech Support Bundle.
