  • 1.  ntfscat command not found in ESXi 8

I installed ESXi 8 and I'm trying to use the ntfscat command to transfer a C.vmdk file from an attached USB 2TB drive formatted NTFS.

I cannot find the ntfscat command, has it been removed in 8? moved out of /bin?

Is there an alternative way to copy a file from a NTFS USB drive to a local datastore?

    Thanks.

At the risk of stating the obvious, have you tried opening the datastore browser to that datastore and using "upload file"? Works here.

How do you mount an ntfs disk?  E.g. vmdk is stored in an external disk that is formatted as ntfs.

All the articles online say to use ntfscat and it doesn't exist anymore

I can't find ntfscat in my ESXi 7.0U3 system, though mcopy is present.

I have to use a USB device to copy files to my ESXi datastore because the VM host I'm using does not have network connectivity by design.

This probably won't help but I ended up plugging the USB drive to a secondary PC, installing IIS services, and essentially shared out the files I needed via local http.

On esxi I used wget -c to download them.  Worked fine.
