  • 1.  NIC teaming for VLAN-backed NSX-T segments

We have a need to collapse 2 VDS v7.0 to a single VDS for a particular cluster. We're running NSX-T v3.2 Each VDS today has 2 uplinks. We're using VLAN-backed segments. The only function of NSX-T in use is Palo Alto E-W firewalling. We would like to continue physically separating the traffic from the 2 legacy VDS when we collapse to a single VDS by configuring NIC teaming on the collapsed VDS, specifically NIC teaming at the segment/port group level. That is, have Segment 1 using Uplinks 1 and 2 as Active and Uplinks 3 and 4 as unused and vice versa. Segment 2 uses Uplinks 3 and 4 as active and Uplinks 1 and 2 as unused. However, we can't find a way to do this. Is this function supported in NSX-T 3.2? We're not using Edge transport nodes today. Thanks!

Yes you can do this by creating named teaming policies on the uplink profile:

Thank you, but NIC teaming in the uplink profile applies at the N-VDS-level, not the segment/portgroup. Is there a way to configure segment/portgroup-level NIC teaming?

    Yes, this:

Select an uplink teaming policy for the segment.

This drop-down menu displays the named teaming policies, if you have added them in the VLAN transport zone. If no uplink teaming policy is selected, the default teaming policy is used.
Named teaming policies are not applicable to overlay segments. Overlay segments always follow the default teaming policy.
For VLAN-backed segments, you have the flexibility to override the default teaming policy with a selected named teaming policy. This capability is provided so that you can steer the infrastructure traffic from the host to specific VLAN segments in the VLAN transport zone. Before adding the VLAN segment, ensure that the named teaming policy names are added in the VLAN transport zone.

For dvPort Groups you configure this in the vSphere Client.

From NSXT3.2 onwards VDS and not N-VDS has to be used for host switches. In NSXT, if we create a  vlan backed segment SEG1 with Vlan 10  and use named teaming with Uplink1 as active and Uplink2 as standby, will NSXT push the configuration to the VDS and apply the teaming to the segment?
