I just installed Hyperic HQ 4.6 and have the agent installed on several servers. I would like to be able to monitor my Exchange 2003 MTA, a SQL service, and some other services but they do not appear to be working. I autodiscovered the servers and the services show up but not as green (available). I get this error at the top of the Monitor window:
    -----
This resource is turned off or has not been configured properly.
The problem is: Invalid configuration: Error retrieving value: \MSExchangeMTA\Hyperic HQ Plugin - Exchange Plugin/sec
Please turn on the server, or fix its Configuration Properties.
    -----

Am I missing something? Do I have to edit the agent somehow? When I installed the agent I ran the setup batch file, selected "2" for the agent, then ran "hq-agent install" then "hq-agent start". I filled in the appropriate information like IP of the HQ server, credentials I used to install the server (which is a domain admin), URL etc...

Thanks in advance for your help. I really like what I see from HQ but need more experience in setting it up for alerts etc...

Is this posted in the wrong place, am I doing something wrong in the forum, or am I just impatient? It's been almost a week and this thread has over 60 views but not a single reply.

Am I missing something or doing something wrong in the forum? I am pretty sure I followed the instructions correctly but may have missed something obvious.

Please reply and let me know if this level of support typical of this forum and I should be more patient, or point out my mistake.

    Thanks in advance!

I am not familiar with Windows/Exchange monitoring and I am doing my first steps with Hyperic at the moment, too.
For monitoring a _SQL server you have to provide an username and a password AFAIK. At least for MySQL. ;)
    Ressources -> Servers -> _SQL -> Inventory -> Configuration Properties -> jdbcUser / jdbcPassword.

First of all, thanks for the reply!
I followed your guide and got my SQL server to work! Then I tried the same for the Exchange (Resources, Servers, then clicked on "Exchange 2003" for the server type.) On the Monitor tab I get this:
"This resource is turned off or has not been configured properly.
The problem is: Invalid configuration: Error retrieving value: \MSExchangeIS Mailbox(_Total)\Hyperic HQ Plugin - Exchange Plugin
Please turn on the server, or fix its Configuration Properties."

So I go to the Inventory tab and see the Configuration Properties but there is no "Edit" option. All I see is this: "This resource does not have any shared Configuration Properties."
I verified that the Hyperic HQ service is started on the Exchange server.

Does anyone else know why I cannot monitor Exchange 2003?

Thanks again for the reply - it did help some.
