    Hi Communities,

I am a new user for that fantastic product. I am two VMs with tow different VLAN and Sup net, those VMs är located on tow different host. The question is I need those Two VMS to talk with each other.  Do I need to use Edge service OR ONLY DLR can handle the traffic between those VMs?

    Thank you

I  moved your question from VMware vSphere™ PowerCLIVMware vSphere™ PowerCLI to VMware NSXVMware NSX.

I would prefer to use Distributed Logical Router (DLR) because with DLR each ESXi host can route between L3 subnets and the traffic doesn't have to go to an external router.

Are your machines on VXLANs or VLANS? If the former then the DLR is optimised for east/west routing of traffic like this. If the latter then there are some design considerations around using VLAN LIFs on a DLR and I think that it's generally not recommended these days. The ESG can do both but obviously you're hairpinning the appliance whereas the DLR can do in-kernel routing, preferably for the VXLAN scenario.

A simple way of looking at it is a standard NSX Edge Appliance deals with north/south traffic, whereas a DLR instance deals with east/west traffic.

Given your scenario, I'd suggest creating logical switches for each VM/network, hooking the VMs up to that switch, and then connecting the LS's to the DLR.
