    Is there an appliance to monitor if any of my servers go down? This will include switches, routers and servers that are not on the vmware network. I am currently using solarwinds on XP. But I must upgrade to windows 7 or find an appliance that can ping all of my nodes.

    FreeNATS will do that for you and is available as a pre-built appliance.

    The current production one is pretty old based on rPath but there's also a new one up for testing at the moment.
