Good Morning All, I am new to VMWare and for now I just have one question. How do I configure the physical NIC on the ESXi server? I just patched an additional NIC on the server and it automatically acquired a DHCP address, but when I go to find out the IP address on the Configuration>>Network Adapters page, all three NICs show the same IP. Can someone let me know why this is?

    Thanks.

Can you please describe where you see the IP addresses? Maybe a hardcopy could help.

Actually, no NIC on the ESXi will aquire a DHCP address. IP addresses are only used for VMkernel port groups and virtual machines.

And - since you are posing in the Vmware ESX 4 community - the Service Console will also need an IP address. :smileywink:

You can not configure physical NICs on ESXi like on Windows. Physical NICs on ESXi also don't get IP addresses.

You already have some vSwitch configured and some portgroups on ESXi I suppose. You can add new NIC to existing vSwitch/portgroups for load balancing and redundancy through "NIC teaming policy" tab in vSwitch settings.

But it won't have its own IP address, it would just another physical window to outer network.
