    Howdy,

So after upgrading from 5.5 to 6.5 vCenter I started converting the data stores but then was stopped because of a certain host. To my suprise I found a host running ESX 4.1.

I ran the 4.1 client but it said the host was managed from vCenter.

    1. disconnected the host from vCenter.

    2. shut down the vm. (its on shared storage that's the problem.)

    3. rebooted the host.

Now I can manage it via the client. I need to move the vm to local storage via this? via kb 1000936

    Is there a better way?

    Thanks

How many VMs there and size ? Use WinSCP to download vm including folders first from SAN and upload to local datastore.

Or you could bend the rules a little - build a vSphere 5.5 VCSA and connect it to the 4.1 host and a 5.5 host. Storage vMotion the VMs across and get the VMs running on the 5.5 host. Disconnect and connect to 6.5 :smileyhappy:

The evaluation license gives you 60 day to get this done :smileywink:

    Kind regards.

    Agreed.

Anyone needing to shuffle VMs around occasionally can do it fine with evals.

I've tried everything and vMotion is the fastest method.

And if it gets to the point where it's on a regular basis, then having vCenter permanently is worth it.
