I am converting from Xenserver 5.6 to Vsphere 5. I have been converting my machines offline by exporting them out of xensever and then using winimage to convert them to a vmdk and then copying them with veam fastscp to the vmware datastore. The problem is I have an EMR server that is 1.1TB in size but yet only has 228GB of data in it. (Its a 2003 server) When I have been converting the images with winimage I have been selected fixed disk size now, not the growable option as I have heard of issues doing that. The problem is I get a transfer rate of about 41MB/s using fastscp. Using a calculator I figure it will take roughly 7 hours to transfer that vmdk file, and I can't really afford to have this server down for 7 hours. Is it safe to convert it to a growable disk?

    Any suggestions?

Have you considered using a cold clone CD (something like MOA from sanbarrow.com) to convert directly between hosts to bypass using winimage?

Does winimage have any specific known issues with thin disks?  If not them I would be comfortable with using thin disks.

I was not aware of MOA, I will defiantly check into that. I don't know of any specific issues with WINIMAGE and thin disks, I will probably be trying it. I'm just trying to find all my options of things to try and test so I can find a good solution.
