Hi. I have a question. What happens if i have a ESX 4 Enterprise license which can support up to 2 CPUs with up to 6 cores per CPU, but the servers have 2 CPUs with 8 cores per CPU?  Will some cores be deactivated or only one CPU will be active or nothing will work? Thank you!

This might be an answer, but not 100 % sure.

If anyone has actually tested this...

upgrade to vSphere5 and you will not have to worry about this limit any longer.

I would as Troy suggest consider upgrading to vSphere 5.x  and the issue goes away,  however from a legal point of view if you are using vSphere 4.x then you need to purchase another CPU of vSphere to bring you into compliance or upgrade to the Enterprise Plus version that allows 12 Cores per CPU.
