  • 1.  Missing Memory - Help!

    HI All,

    I am new to ESXi / VMware. I am struggling to understand where all of my memory has gone. My server has 8GB, which is detected fine by the OS. However not all of it is available to VMs???

    I have checked and it looks like 3.5GB is reserved with no VMs running??

    Can anyone shed any light on this?

    The rsvd field in esxtop consists of the memory allocated to system resourcepools and the minimum memory vmkernel requires.

    ESXi is also an operating system and it requires some amount of memory to function. This contains the memory required for various vmkernel modules

    Thanks for the reply.

    What confuses me is under the resources tab it says host memory is something like 34mb, not 3.4GB, it seems a lot considering nothing was running?

    Do you think this figure is about right? If so I will need to order a new server.
