Folks,
Does anyone knows the minimum memory requirements for ESXi 4.0? I could find something for the max configuration but would like to have the minimum config too..
Could you please get me the link to the documents?
Thanks!
2GB for ESXi, 3GB for ESX. EDIT - see below, both need 2GB only.
Both need 64-bit CPU.
Of course an install with only 2GB of RAM would be next to useless.
Please award points to any useful answer.
J1mbo, 2GB is required for ESX. ESX and vCenter Server Installation Guide, page 13

I run 2 small VM (512Mb/one core each) on a Dell "standard" desktop computers with 2Gb RAM, using ESXi 4 free edition. Not lightning fast, but it works.
Hi Anton, yes I see you are correct, my mistake. Thanks.
Minimum memory is sum of all VMs memory plus 2 GB. And it leads us to 4GB memory at least.
ESX(i) require 2GB for itself.
Docs are here: http://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/vs_pages/vsp_pubs_esx40_u1_vc40_u1.html
Thanks for your responses. I was referring to the same document. Does it says ESXi itself need 2GB and then seperate for VMs?
Is there any other technical documentation that explains about this allocation? If so, could you please send it?
This comes from my own experience.
If you're going to run ESXi on host with less than 6GB, install 3.5 instead of 4.0, it requires much less memory for itself.
