  • 1.  Migration of VCS to new server.

Is there any way to migrate the database etc from my current 2.5 Virtual Center Server and 2005 SQL to a new system. Due to hardware problems I have a new server that I would like to move my VCS and License server over to. But I have created several special roles and do not want to have to go in and recreate everything. I also have numerous Resource Pools with VMs under them that I do would perfer not to have to recreate. Any Ideas, hits etc.

I have not done anything like this before and also do not know much about SQL databses.

you shouldn't have any problems. Just bring up a new VCMS server Host, create the ODBC connections and point it to the existing DB. Install the new VCMS on new hardware, during the install point it to your existing DB, remembering not to wipe it out.

Do a full backup of your DB first and also take a look at this KB

One of the problems is that the Database is on the same old hardware as the old Virtual Center Server. I have the VCS, License Mgr, and the SQL server are all on the same server and it is having problems.

Do you have backups of the VC Database?

Here is a guide on moving your Virtual Center server. It describes it for VC 2.0.1 ,but the same concept should work.
