Would you be able to post the error message from tasks & events of the VM? There can be several reasons why this will decide to fail half way.
For now, lets check some obvious ones :
Do you know if you're using Jumbo frames throughout your network?
What kind of storage and are both hosts configured the same way when connecting to the storage unit?
Can you verify that the time between the two hosts is accurate?
Can both hosts perform DNS lookups?
